520			_aEsta investigación propone indagar la relación entre el apoyo social y las estrategias de afrontamiento frente a situaciones críticas del envejecimiento en mujeres. La literatura científica concibe al envejecimiento como una crisis del desarrollo que afecta la adaptación. Existe evidencia de la relación entre el afrontamiento y la adaptación a la crisis vital. Mediante un diseño descriptivo y transversal, se evaluaron ambas variables en una muestra de 212 adultas mayores de Mar del Plata. Se describe la naturaleza y frecuencia de uso de las estrategias y los estilos de afrontamiento, y se evalúa la relación con el nivel de apoyo social. Los resultados muestran que la selección y uso de estrategias de afrontamiento se asoció significativamente con el nivel de apoyo social. Las mujeres mayores con mayores recursos sociales tendieron a usar estrategias de afrontamiento activas y adaptativas, principalmente cognitivas y emocionales, mientras que las mujeres con escaso apoyo social utilizaron estrategias pasivas y evitativas.

The scientific literature considers the aging as a developmental crisis which affects the adaptation. There is evidence about the relationship between the coping and the adaptation to life crisis. By means of descriptive and cross-sectorial design, a 212-old-women sample from Mar del Plata city was assessed. The nature and the use frequency of the coping styles and strategies are described, and it is evaluated the relationship with the social support. Results show that the selection and the use of coping strategies were significantly correlated with the social support level. The elderly women with more social resources tended to use the active and adaptative coping strategies, mainly the cognitive and emotional ones; whereas women with poor social support used the passive and avoided coping strategies.
