RESUMEN

Objetivo: Analizar en forma critica - comparativa las fuentes de estrés, y los estilos de afrontamiento de las personas de edad en distinto contexto habitacional. Metodología: Se siguieron los pasos del diseño descriptivo - comparativo de corte transversal. El Cuestionario de Datos Generales, elaborado por las autoras y el Cuestionario de Estilos de Afrontamientos de Lazarus y Folkman , fueron administrados a 300 senescentes de los cuales 150 vivían en sus hogares y 150 en instituciones geriátricas. Concluciones: El contexto habitacional en el adulto mayor es uno de los factores que intervinienen en la determinación de las fuentes de estrés y de los estilos de afrontamiento que utilizan ante los acontecimientos vitales estresantes.

ABSTRACT


Objective: To analyze in a critical - comparative way the sources of stress and the styles of confrontation of aged people living in their homes against those who live in public or private geriatric institutions. Methodology: The steps of the descriptive - comparative design were followed. The General Data Questionnaire, drawn up by the authors, and the Questionnaire of Styles of Confrontation by Lazarus and Folk man (1986) were administered to 300 aged people of which 150 lived in their homes and 150 in geriatric institutions. Results: The living context in the aged adult is one of the factors which intervene in determining the sources of stress and the styles of confrontation which they use in the face of vital stressful occurrences.
